Farewell to the Kapitan Khlebnikov

As of March 2012 the legendary icebreaker will no longer be a passenger vessel. This is the end of an era for the most famous and accomplished polar expedition ship in history. Remaining departures include only two Arctic seasons (2010 and 2011) and two Antarctic seasons (2010-11 and 2011-12).

Reserve NOW for an Arctic voyage THIS SUMMER on the beloved icebreaker. The final voyages for SUMMER 2010 are as follows:

In the news:

We are excited to advise that we are going to guarantee both our Tibet and Yunnan departures for Fall 2010. You can confidently book either of these departures knowing that they will definetly run. And as an added bonus, the Tibet tour now includes a visit to Everest Base Camp - a place very few people have had the opportunity to visit. Take one trip, or combine the two for an extraordinary adventure. The dates are as follows:

The Stans of Central Asia

May 21 - June 14, 2010
Oct 2 - 26, 2010

For thousands of years, lands were sought after and conquered by some of the world's great leaders. Today it is the world's greatest adventure seekers who are drawn to the exotic lands of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. These are lands filled with harsh deserts, towering snow capped peaks, ancient cities and fortresses with exotic cultures. Explore the markets, villages and historic cities which evoke images of caravans traveling across deserts and over mountains, linking the east with the west.

Egypt

Feb 27 - March 20, 2010
Oct 30 - Nov 20, 2010

Experience the wonders of the ancient world in Egypt. The great pyramids of Giza guarded by the Sphinx, Valley of the Kings, and the great Temples of Abu Simbel, Karnak and Luxor. Explore the ancient sites, cruise the Nile, reflect on the calming beauty of the Black and White Deserts, the Siwa Oasis and the cosmopolitan cities of Cairo and Alexandria. An early morning balloon adventure over the Valley of Kings gives an incredible perspective over this ancient land.

Hidden Treasures of South America

March 15 - April 5, 2010

Discover hidden treasures virtually unexplored by tourists in the little-known regions of South America. Visit the fascinating indigenous cultures, sublime landscapes, and snow-capped peaks of Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Bolivia. Drive over spectacular Andean passes and trek through remote gorges and valleys - home to estancias (ranches) which bring to life the romanticized images of hard working Gauchos - reminiscent of the Wild West of the mid 1800's.

Bhutan

March 19 - April 5, 2010
Oct 23 - Nov 9, 2010

Bhutan is a land of friendly, devout Buddhists, mountain monasteries and snow capped Himalayan peaks. See the famous tea plantations of Darjeeling, and meet a traditional Himalayan community in Sikkim before entering into Bhutan. Wander through markets, temples and monasteries in Thimpu and journey along the Duchola Pass with its stunning views of the Himalayas. The March departure also takes in the festival in Paro, where one can encounter Bhutan's gracious people during a time of festivities, parades, ceremonies and dance. Bhutan is the cultural explorer's Philosopher's Stone.
