THE PARKINSON'S SUPER WALK
ELDERTREKS DONATES THE GRAND PRIZE DRAW TO COSTA RICA
The Parkinson Society Canada (PSC) is the national voice of Canadians living with Parkinson's. Their purpose is to ease the burden and find a cure for this disease through research, education, support services and advocacy. Parkinson's is a neurodegenerative disorder, a chronic disease that generally affects people in the latter half of life with symptoms such as tremor, muscle rigidity, slowness of movement, impaired speech, and difficulty with balance, walking and fine motor movements. Nearly 100,000 Canadians and approximately 1,000,000 Americans suffer from this condition.
PSC is committed to supporting research that will one day eradicate Parkinson's and is the only organization in Canada which specifically supports Canadian Parkinson's research and researchers. Many researchers believe that answers to the Parkinson's riddle may be discovered within the coming decade.
In light of imminent breakthroughs, support of the Parkinson's cause is crucial. SuperWalk for Parkinson's is PSC's single-most important national awareness and fundraising event. Through individual and corporate pledges, the 2001 walk was the most successful ever, raising over $925,000. The 2002 event will take place this coming September in 60 sites across Canada.
ElderTreks wants to help find a cure, and to encourage people to walk and raise funds, this is the fourth year we are offering a Grand Prize draw of two trips to Costa Rica with return flights included. The winner's name is drawn every November.
If you would like more information on the Super Walks and how you can get involved, please call our office or visit: www.parkinson.ca.
Good luck to all entrants!
