This exciting journey through the Northwest Passage follows the adventures of explorers such as Roald Amundsen and Sir John Franklin. Our voyage is a discovery of the Arctic and all of the life that it supports, including the Inuit culture.
Begin in Resolute and immediately push south into Peel Sound, a stretch of water open for navigation for only one month a year. Traveling south to the western entrance of Bellot Strait and on through Franklin Strait, we will push through ice into Larsen Sound, a place where the ice from the permanent polar pack bottlenecks, making the transit of the Northwest Passage such a difficult feat. Attempt a landing at Victory Point on King William Island. From there, head south, through Icebreaker Channel and into Queen Maud Gulf.
Continue west through Coronation Gulf as far as time allows and attempt to touch the waters of the Beaufort Sea, to complete the passage. The return voyage to Cambridge Bay will be just as exciting, as we explore new territory and stop for walks on the tundra and search for polar bears on the ice. |
