Peru offers some of the most impressive archeological sites in the world and equally stunning opportunities to hike past breathtaking mountain peaks, glacial lakes and lush river valleys. Visit the ancient lands of the Caral, Chavin, Chimu, Moche and Inca. Trek in the highest mountain range outside of the Himalayas, the Cordillera Blanca with 22 summits of over 19,000 feet. No Peru hiking adventure is complete without hiking a true Inca trail. Our ultimate 6-day lodge-to-lodge Salkantay Inca Trail will give you that journey, culminating in a visit to the UNESCO World heritage site of Machu Picchu.

We begin by exploring the captial city of Lima before departing along the coastal desert to Barranca and the 4500 year old ruins of Caral. Spectacular mountain scenery begins as we head inland to the Cordillera Negra and Cordillera Blanca with the city of Huaraz nestled between. The exceptional scenery is matched by the feat of engineering of the Chavin Culture in creating the tunnels and temples from 1200 BC. See Chiclayo and Trujillo and the ancient Mochica's Lord of Sipan, the pyramids at Tucume and the adobe temples of Chan Chan. Visit the heart of the Inca empire, Cusco and climb the Sacred Valley's fortresses of Pisaq and Ollantaytambo. From Puno we travel by boat to the unique reed “ floating islands” of the Uros people and stay in a family guesthouse on Taquile Island where we can hike over terraces and past small villages with tranquil views over Lake Titicaca.

Our 6-day lodge-to-lodge trek combines superb scenery, comfortable lodges and great food while avoiding the crowds of the “other” more common Inca trail. Meet the local Quechua of the Andes as we traverse from high Andes to lush river valleys through nine different biozones.
