Danum Valley Rainforest - Extension

Day 1: Arrive at the Rainforest Lodge, Night Spotlighting

Meet at Lahad Datu Airport and drive to the Danum Valley, viewing cocoa and soft-wood plantations enroute. The Borneo Rainforest Lodge is located beside Danum River, on the edge of 275 square miles of undisturbed lowland rainforest.

The Lodge is home to a full range of Sabah's lowland fauna, including the rare Sumatran rhinoceros, elephants, clouded leopards and orangutans. So far, some 275 species of birds have been recorded in the area. Explore nature trails and the nearby river. In the evening, a slide show is presented and afterwards, weather permitting, you can go "spotlighting" to view nocturnal animals. Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 2: Birdwalk, Rock Pools,Canopy Walkway

Early morning birdwalk before breakfast. Spend the day exploring the forest for birds and mammals, leading up to an escarpment with ancient tribal burial sites. Trek to the waterfall and take a dip in the refreshing rock pools. After lunch at the lodge, join in a jungle walk through trails leading to a canopy walkway. Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 3: Jungle Trekking, Night Walk

After an early morning breakfast, depart from the lodge and proceed to Borneo Rainforest Lodge's gate located 2 miles away for morning bird-watching. Explore the surrounding area in search of more bird-life. Return to the lodge for lunch at noon.

After lunch, proceed for jungle trekking at "Tekala Trail", passing over the suspension bridge on the Danum River which connects you to the "Segama Trail". If you are lucky, you'll see red leaf monkeys, hornbills, mousedeer, orangutans, gibbons and lots of bird-life. The journey takes approximately 2 hours. Return to the lodge for a shower and relaxation. After dinner, you have the opportunity to go for a night walk or a night drive. Overnight Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 4: Morning Walk, Departure To Lahad Datu Airport

This morning, hike in search of mammals and birds. Return to the lodge for lunch before transferring to Lahad Datu Airport for your flights to Kota Kinabalu.
