Classic Australia - Extension

Day 1: Arrive in Ayers Rock Airport, Yulara

G'day! Make your own flight to Ayers Rock. Yulara from any major Australian city, Sydney, Cairns, Melbourne etc. We will need your flight details to Ayers Rock, the city you will be departing from and the hotel you will be staying at so a representative can pick you up to assist you to the airport for your flight to Ayers Rock. This is also the welcome meeting in which all details will be discussed for the next 7 days. Upon arrival in Ayers Rock, you will be met and transferred to your hotel for check in.

This afternoon we visit the Cultural Centre and Maruku Arts and Craft Cooperative. Join a guided walk to the waterhole of Mutitjulu, followed by the guided Mala Walk. Learn about the legends, geology and flora of the region and explore Kantju Gorge. Late this afternoon, stop and enjoy a glass of wine with our compliments as you watch Uluru at sunset. Admire the changing colours of Uluru as the sun sinks beneath the desert plain.

Overnight in Ayers Rock.

Note: Arrival into Ayers Rock must be before 1pm due to sightseeing in the afternoon.

Day 2: Uluru (Ayers Rock) Sunrise, Kata Tjuta (Olgas), Kings Canyon

Rise early to see Uluru at sunrise. Drive out to Kata Tjuta, a magnificent cluster of 36 rocky domes that dominate the western skyline of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Join a walk into Walpa (Olga) Gorge, where some of the plants are so rare that they are only found in and around these distinct sandstone formations. This afternoon, journey to Watarrka National Park, the home of Kings Canyon. Overnight at Kings Canyon.

Day 3: Ayers Rock to Kings Canyon

This morning enjoy a guided walk up to the rim of awe-inspiring Kings Canyon for spectacular views of the canyon's walls. Then walk through the ancient Lost City and the lush Garden of Eden to a waterhole (requires a good degree of fitness). Another less strenuous walk along the canyon floor is also available. This gentler alternative takes you deep into the canyon between the towering orange walls.

This afternoon travel to Kings Creek Station. After a rest continue on to Alice Springs, arriving at late in the afternoon around 6:30PM. Overnight in Alice Springs

Day 4: Alice Springs to Cairns

Today is at leisure until you are transferred to the airport for your flight to Cairns. Upon arrival you are transferred to your hotel. Overnight in Cairns.

Day 5: Full day on the Great Barrier Reef

Today explore a stunning coral reef location selected for it's superior water clarity, coral quality and overall diversity of marine life. Depart direct from Cairns on a fast, stable catamaran providing a smoother ride and reduced travel time, leaving more of your day to experience the magic of the Great Barrier Reef. The all-weather Marine World platform caters for all activity levels. Snorkel in the sheltered coral lagoon, go scuba diving (no experience necessary) or join the Marine Biologist on a Guided Snorkel safari.Enjoy the reef from the semi-submersible reef viewer, glass bottom boat or underwater observatory.

Day 6: Kuranda and Aboriginal Experience

A short journey to the Railway Station to board the famous Kuranda Scenic Rail. An amazing journey awaits you as you travel one of the world's most scenic rail routes through hand hewn tunnels and over bridges spanning spectacular gorges. A stop is made at Barron Gorge to view the Falls before arriving at beautiful Kuranda Station.Spend some time exploring this quaint Village before a short journey brings you to the Rainfore station set in 40 hectares of gardens and rainforest. A number of unique activities await you. Board the unusual amphibious Army Duck for a different look at the Rainforest. An experienced guide will show you unique tropical fruits, ancient rainforest plants and point out a number of our native animals as you meander through the Rainforest.

Join the Dreamtime Walk for an insight into ancient Aboriginal and Islander history. Their way of life is explained and you can even try your hand at boomerang throwing. The Pamagirri Dancers perform a range of native dances in the Rainforest Amphitheatre that reflects the humour and excitement of their culture. A delicious barbeque lunch is included before visiting the Koala and Wildlife Park. Cuddle a koala (own expense), smile at a crocodile and hand feed the kangaroos and wallabies. A range of other native animals and reptiles are also on display. Time to return to Kuranda and board the Skyrail, an experience which takes you over the Rainforest canopy with stops along the way allowing you to take a stroll or visit the CSIRO Interpretive Centre before arriving at Caravonica Lakes. Our coach will be waiting to return you to your accommodation after a wonderful day in the rainforest. Overnight in Cairns.

Day 7: Depart Cairns

A day spent at leisure until you are transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
