Day 1: Arrive in Ayers Rock Airport, Yulara

G'day! Make your own flight to Ayers Rock. Yulara from any major Australian city, Sydney, Cairns, Melbourne etc. We will need your flight details to Ayers Rock, the city you will be departing from and the hotel you will be staying at so a representative can pick you up to assist you to the airport for your flight to Ayers Rock. This is also the welcome meeting in which all details will be discussed for the next 7 days. Upon arrival in Ayers Rock, you will be met and transferred to your hotel for check in.

This afternoon travel to the mystical 36 domes of Kata Tjuta. On the way, stop at a lookout for panoramic views of its eastern side. Continue on before arriving at the base of Walpa Gorge. Spend some time exploring the gorge and the unusual conglomerate rock formations. The walking trail through Walpa Gorge follows the natural creek between two of the tallest domes of Kata Tjuta. In the late afternoon, we travel to the Uluru sunset viewing area. Witness and photograph the striking colour changes of Uluru at sunset while enjoying snacks and a glass of wine. Then you will be transfered to Desert Gardens Hotel.

Overnight in Ayers Rock.

Note: Arrival into Ayers Rock must be before 1pm due to sightseeing in the afternoon.

 

Day 2: Uluru (Ayers Rock) Sunrise, Kata Tjuta (Olgas), Kings Canyon

Rise early this morning to travel to the Uluru sunrise viewing area, Talinguru Nyakunytjaku. Watch the first rays of the sun set the red centre alight while enjoying a warming cup of tea or coffee and biscuits. After watching the sunrise, you will join your Driver/Guide for a tour around the base of Uluru. Travel by coach to the Mutitjulu Walk where you will be escorted to the beautiful Mutitjulu Waterhole. View Aboriginal rock paintings and learn about the area as your Driver/Guide indicates some native flora and explains the Aboriginal and European history of of Uluru. Visit the Uluru - Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre, where you can learn about Aboriginal culture and see Aboriginal Arts and crafts. On days when the Uluru Climb is open, those with a good level of fitness will have the opportunity to climb Uluru as an alternative to the Uluru Base Tour. Tonight you will be staying at Kings Canyon Resort. In the evening you may be able to view the sun setting behind Carmichaels Crag.

Overnight at Kings Canyon.

 

Day 3: Kings Canyon to Alice Springs

This morning join a guided climb to the rim of the canyon for marvellous views of Watarrka National Park. The walk takes 3 hours and is for those with a good level of fitness. Alternatively, you may wish to explore the boulder-strewn canyon floor. Stop at Kings Canyon Resort to purchase lunch (own expense) before travelling on to Alice Springs

Note: During hotter months where temperatures can reach and exceed 36 degrees, Watarrka National Park Rangers strongly advise not to take part in the Kings Canyon Rim Climb. A guided walk along the Kings Canyon creek-bed is a suitable alternative on such days.

 

Day 4: Alice Springs to Cairns

Today is at leisure until you are transferred to the airport for your flight to Cairns. Upon arrival you are transferred to your hotel. Overnight in Cairns.

 

Day 5: Full day on the Great Barrier Reef

Today explore a stunning coral reef location selected for it's superior water clarity, coral quality and overall diversity of marine life. Depart direct from Cairns on a fast, stable catamaran providing a smoother ride and reduced travel time, leaving more of your day to experience the magic of the Great Barrier Reef. The all-weather Marine World platform caters for all activity levels. Snorkel in the sheltered coral lagoon, go scuba diving (no experience necessary) or join the Marine Biologist on a Guided Snorkel safari.Enjoy the reef from the semi-submersible reef viewer, glass bottom boat or underwater observatory.

Day 6: Kuranda and Aboriginal Experience

A short journey to the Railway Station to board the famous Kuranda Scenic Rail. An amazing journey awaits you as you travel one of the world's most scenic rail routes through hand hewn tunnels and over bridges spanning spectacular gorges. A stop is made at Barron Gorge to view the Falls before arriving at beautiful Kuranda Station.Spend some time exploring this quaint Village before a short journey brings you to the Rainfore station set in 40 hectares of gardens and rainforest. A number of unique activities await you. Board the unusual amphibious Army Duck for a different look at the Rainforest. An experienced guide will show you unique tropical fruits, ancient rainforest plants and point out a number of our native animals as you meander through the Rainforest.

Join the Dreamtime Walk for an insight into ancient Aboriginal and Islander history. Their way of life is explained and you can even try your hand at boomerang throwing. The Pamagirri Dancers perform a range of native dances in the Rainforest Amphitheatre that reflects the humour and excitement of their culture. A delicious barbeque lunch is included before visiting the Koala and Wildlife Park. Cuddle a koala (own expense), smile at a crocodile and hand feed the kangaroos and wallabies. A range of other native animals and reptiles are also on display. Time to return to Kuranda and board the Skyrail, an experience which takes you over the Rainforest canopy with stops along the way allowing you to take a stroll or visit the CSIRO Interpretive Centre before arriving at Caravonica Lakes. Our coach will be waiting to return you to your accommodation after a wonderful day in the rainforest. Overnight in Cairns.

 

Day 7: Depart Cairns

A day spent at leisure until you are transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
