A few years ago Eldertreks brought back Indonesia to our list of destinations we visit and it was a hit with our travelers! The lush island of Sumatra, fifth largest in the world, is one of Indonesia's most important islands and perhaps its most beautiful. It is a truly extraordinary destination offering a variety of tribes, cultures, wildlife reserves, jungles, rivers, spectacular waterfalls and amazing crater lakes. Java & Bali is a journey to islands where volcanoes puff smoke, green rice sways in reflecting paddies, white sand beaches glisten in the sun and where ancient monuments and arts thrive in a contemporary culture. From the ancient temples of Borobudur and Prambanan to the towering presence of Mt Bromo - this is the heart of Indonesia. For those with a passion to explore you can combine both trips to experience the best of Indonesia.

Few places offer such a myriad of experiences for the traveler as Ethiopia. Much of the fascination of this country lies in its many historical sites. Ethiopia has nine national parks, protecting many of its endemic species. The ancient tribal culture compliments the unique history and nature of Ethiopia. Experience tribal cultures such as the Hamer, the Mursi and the Dorze whose traditional lifestyle is a stark contrast to our modern life. Trip Specialist David Roth has journeyed to and lead many trips to Ethiopia. Call ElderTreks office to speak with David about this fascinating country.

Bhutan is a land of friendly, devout Buddhists, mountain monasteries and snow capped Himalayan peaks. See the famous tea plantations of Darjeeling, and meet a traditional Himalayan community in Sikkim before entering into Bhutan. Wander through markets, temples and monasteries in Thimpu and journey along the Duchola Pass with its stunning views of the Himalayas. The March departure also takes in the festival in Paro, where one can encounter Bhutan's gracious people during a time of festivities, parades, ceremonies and dance. Bhutan is the cultural explorer's Philosopher's Stone.

ElderTreks "Where on Earth?" Contest

We've decided that our last contest was a bit unfair. Most people correctly guessed the woven shoes from India, however a lot of people guessed Norway or Lapland for the other pair. In fact the other pair are from the Sami people... however they are specifically from the Sami which moved to Alaska and are housed in the Anchorage Museum of History and Art. We decided to gather all votes for the past two months that answered USA or the countries which encompass the Sami region of Europe as correct answers and enter them into our draw to select the random winner.

Congratulations to Sharon Blumberg. For her efforts Sharon wins $100 towards her next exciting ElderTreks adventure.

Click the images to enlarge. If you enter the correct location of both photos your name will be entered for a chance to win $100 towards your next ElderTreks adventure. The winner will be chosen randomly from the list of correct entries and will be announced in our following eNewsletter. Good luck to all those who enter.
